Aiming to streamline the information on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and disseminate official and authentic news coverage, the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) Council was formally launched on Tuesday. The BRNN was officially announced in Beijing amid a grand function attended by top media leaders from leading news agencies from 25 different countries.
Likewise, the BRNN First Council Meeting also unanimously passed the Charter of the BRNN. Following the approval of the Charter, the media leaders present on the occasion signed the BRNN First Council Meeting Joint Statement, the officials said. Hosted by China’s People’s Daily, the BRNN First Council Meeting has called upon the media fraternity for broader cooperation to ensure win-win cooperation for mutual interests and mutual benefits.
During the program, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message to the first meeting of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) council was read out by Huang Kunming, Member of the Political Bureau, Member of the Secretariat and Head of the Publicity Department, Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
In the message, President Xi said that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) comes from China, but its opportunities and achievements are for the world to share. President Xi noted that participants in the BRI follow the Silk Road spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit to turn it into a road of peace, prosperity, openness, green development and innovation and a path that brings together different civilizations.
“China is glad to see the media’s positive and constructive role in forging partnerships with the BRI since its inception. The BRNN provides a convenient platform for exchanges and cooperation between media from various countries,” President Xi mentioned in his message.
The Chinese President also expressed the hope for members of the BRNN council to enhance communication and cooperation and do more to promote policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds by carrying forward the Silk Road spirit.
During the program, Kunming, President of People’s Daily Li Baoshan, Executive Chairman of Independent Media of South Africa Dr Iqbal Surve, President of Jang Media Group and GEO Television Network of Pakistan Sarmad Ali and other media leaders from Russia, Mexico, UAE, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Spain, Belarus, Republic of Korea, Nigeria, Egypt, Portugal, Kazakhstan, France, Indonesia, Mongolia, Laos, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Sudan, Zambia and the UK shared the common views on the need for the media platform to further consolidate cooperation.
On the occasion, the official website of the BRNN council (www.brnn.com) was announced. The network is a significant measure to implement the cooperation consensus reached during the first BRI forum and for people to people exchanges along the BRI routes.
