Nepal’s Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli sacked

Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli has been sacked.

The judicial council, the apex body to pick up justices, has written a letter to Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli stating that he was no more in the post.

The Chief Justice was handed over the letter signed by council’s member secretary Nrip Dhowj Niraula stating that Parajuli was already retired due to his age limit.

The Chief Justice was supposed to administer oath of office to Nepal’s President elect Bidya Devi Bhandari. But, as the preparations were on for the swearing in ceremony at 4:00 pm, Chief Justice Parajuli was sacked from the post at 3:15 pm.

In the recent days, the debate in the judiciary over the Chief Justice age, contempt of court by Nepal’s major daily newspaper, bench boycott by some justices were ongoing.
