Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, held discussions with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong about the Nepal-China Energy Network Meeting that is taking place on September 27 and 28 in Kathmandu. During the meeting held at Energy Ministry in Singhadurbar on Wednesday, the two discussed other issues relating to Meeting on Energy Network and the matters of mutual interest,s according to Minister Pun’s Secretariat. Saying that investment friendly environment has already been created in Nepal’s hydropower sector, Energy Minister stated that the Chinese investors could invest in Nepal without any doubt. The Energy Minister further said that agreement for the construction of cross border transmission line among BIMSTEC member states has helped market expansion and stressed that investment was necessary to fulfill government’s dream of development and prosperity.
The meeting of the Network is taking place for the first time in Kathmandu at the initiative of Energy Minister Pun for which the Chinese Ambassador thanked the Minister for the same. The Chinese Ambassador added that the Network would benefit the energy sector of both countries and would open new doors for possibilities. On the occasion, Ambassador Yu suggested that it would be better if Nepal made its policy public on energy sector development adding that such move would help the Chinese investors to invest in the energy sector. Likewise, the two discussed the ongoing China-supported projects in Nepal and the future cooperation in energy sector. (With inputs from RSS)
