China’s world leader in green, new energy technology, BYD, announced completion of its 50,000th pure electric bus, nine years after beginning production. The milestone vehicle, made for a Spanish customer, was given a special send-off at BYD’s Hangzhou factory where it was produced, according to Chinese news website china.org.cn.
Build Your Dream (BYD) claims the world’s largest range of battery-powered electric buses, with clients now spread across the world in 300 cities. Its standard 12m pure e-buses feature all-new styling and each has a capacity of 80 passengers. The fleet being manufactured for local operator TUBASA are expected to begin service in Badajoz, a city in southwestern Spain, this Spring. BYD entered Spain’s electric bus sector in 2017, and currently has orders from various cities such as Valencia, Badalona and Badajoz.
The BYD is producing e-buses in India and is supplying its products in the region, according to officials.
“Our track record demonstrates a clear market recognition of and trust in BYD products,” said Wang Chuanfu, president and chairman of BYD is quoted in the news. Ever since the first 12m pure electric bus was produced in Changsha of Hunan province in 2010, BYD has actively advocated the adoption of new energy vehicles. Today, its vehicles have not only become commonplace in major Chinese cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Changsha and Xi’an, but also spread to other medium- to small-sized cities in the country.
In addition, BYD has gradually grown its international customer base for pure electric buses since the first batch of 35 electric buses was exported to Amsterdam Schiphol airport in 2013. These customers include Transport for London, Los Angeles Public Transport Co. and Sydney Airport.
