The top leaders of the Saarc region also known as club of poor are taking part in the summit.
Those attending the Saarc summit include Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, President of Afghanistan, Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, President of the Maldives, Nawaj Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The heads of state and government would address the inaugural session at the venue in City Hall.
The summit is to end on Thursday by issuing the Kathmandu Declaration. However, the critics believe that the Saarc Summit would have not such a big impact on the lives of the region as no bilateral issues are discussed and the entire region is affected from the Indo-Pak disputes, mainly the Kashmir issue.
